- news releases American Rental Association's 53rd Anniversary Celebrated at "The Rental Show" in Orlando, Fla. Tomball Rental Center sent Greg and Keith Kitchens to the 2010 ARA convention in Florida. The event took place from Feb. 7-10 at the Orlando Convention Center. The Rental Show is the world's largest trade show representing the rental industry, with equipment exhibitors and rental dealers from the United States, Canada, and many other countries around the world. Highlights included a keynote address from Pat Williams, Senior VP of the NBA's Orlando Magic, a special 'New York City Night' for members only at Universal Studios Orlando, and networking seminars with rental peers, as well as the chance to view the latest in equipment advances 'up close and personal'. "The down economy is a topic and concern of everyone we talked to at the show. And of course it has a bearing on what direction we go in replenishing equipment as well as adding new lines. The show was an opportunity for us to refocus on areas of specific need in our inventory fleet, using input from our customers over the last 12 months", said Greg Kitchens, store manager. "And by the way, the Johnny Rockit roller coaster at Universal Studios is outrageous! I rode twice. I think it took a year off my life!", he added. American Rental Association Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary at The Rental Show in Orlando, Fla. Tomball Rental Center took nine employees to The Rental Show, held in Orlando, Fla., from Feb. 6-9, 2006. The Rental Show is the largest trade show in the world representing the rental industry. The American Rental Association is an international non-profit association founded in 1955, and comprises more than 7500 owners of equipment rental businesses and 1100 manufacturers and suppliers of rental equipment. Highlights of the show were a keynote address by former First Lady Barbara Bush, an evening gala with '50s theme hosted for members at Epcot, and a giveaway of a Ford F-250 pickup with crew cab, four wheel drive, tow command, and diesel engine, valued at $42,000. Manager Greg Kitchens said afterwards, "The truck would have been a great addition to the delivery fleet. Just the same, we had a great time interacting with vendors and fellow rental people from all over the world, just as we always do. We made some good buys on rental and party equipment, and we feel good about being able to offer more and better rental options to the good people who have shopped with us over the years. And Barbara Bush was great -- she is just what you would expect, and she had lots of stories to share with us." American Rental Association Has Record Show in Atlanta, Ga. from February 25-29, 2004 Tomball Rental Center took five employees to the Rental Show, the annual convention and product showcase of the American Rental Association. The event is attended by rental personnel from around the world, and features networking with peers and the opportunity to view the newest products, innovations and equipment, presented by over 750 exhibitors. Tomball Chamber of Commerce Function Hosted by Tomball Rental Center August 5, 2003 Tomball Rental Center was the location for the Tomball Chamber of Commerce's "Business After Hours" networking event, held August 5th, 2003, from 5 till 7 PM. Over 100 businesspeople attended the function, which highlighted the various services available from Tomball Rental Center and Tomball Party Rental.
American Rental Association National Convention and Expo in New Orleans - February 18-22, 2002 Record seven from Tomball Rental Attend Show March 1, 2002 -- As Tomball Rental Center nears the start of its 25th year in operation, the company sent a record seven employees to attend the premier annual event of the rental industry, the American Rental Association National Convention held in New Orleans, La. Over 700 manufacturers and distributors of construction, party and special event equipment were represented at the show, one of the largest expositions of any kind in the US. The event brings together people involved in all aspects of the rental industry, from countries around the globe. In addition to meetings and seminars on topics important to the industry, the event is a showcase for the latest inventions and innovations, many of which will find their way into rental center inventories. Says Greg Kitchens, vice president: "We added several rental items at this show that represent new offerings for our company. The exhibit space is so large that it was difficult to spend a lot of time at each booth, but this is our best chance to see the latest labor-saving ideas. We now have an 8-yard tandem trailer which is self-unloading. It can be pulled behind most heavy duty pickups, and it has an engine which drives a conveyor belt that can empty the trailer in a controlled manner with zero effort. On the party side, we will shortly have the sky dancers, which are colorful sleeves made of parachute type material, 20 or more feet long, that 'dance' over an electric blower. These things are great for open houses, grand openings, baby announcements, etc. We also find the interaction with others at the show helps us to know what trends are developing, what others are renting, across the country and beyond." ARA Regional Show in Fort Worth Just Completed - July 22-25, 2001 Three from Tomball Rental Attend Show July 27, 2001 -- Greg Kitchens, Beverly Kitchens and Bill Friedrich just returned from the American Rental Association's annual West Regional Conference, held this year at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Also attending were Greg and Beverly's son Adam, and Bill Friedrich's wife, Peni, and children, Becky, Christopher and Sean. The conference is attended by equipment and party rental store owners and employees from around the world; activities include seminars on safety, customer service, tours of rental stores in the Metroplex area, and recognition of individuals who make special contributions to the advancement of the industry. Exhibitors of rental and party equipment at the convention center show off the latest technology available, and receive feedback from attendees as to what the renting public wants to see in rental stores in the future. Said Greg Kitchens, "In any industry, some of the best ideas come from peers, and we always come back with a wider perspective of the rental industry and the services that it offers the public, from homeowners making improvements around the house to independent contractors looking for ways to serve their customers, to government agencies looking to outsource some of their equipment needs. Of course it's nice to get away for awhile, too! But it was even hotter in Fort Worth than here in Tomball. Seriously, we always bring back equipment and ideas that we feel improve the options and service the public receives at Tomball Rental Center, and we do ask our customers what they want to see us offer, so that we go to AND come away from events like this one better informed."
ARA National Convention - February 2000 in Anaheim, California Three Company officers attend showMarch 27, 2000 -- Last month, Bill and Vergie Kitchens, owners of Tomball Rental Center, attended the annual American Rental Association national convention in Anaheim, California. Vice-president Terry Kitchens and wife Debbie also attended. The annual show draws equipment exhibitors and rental store operators from every US state and many countries around the world. Over 700 companies exhibited the latest models of every type of rental equipment, and professional speakers presented daily seminars on topics such as employee relations, communications, and store layout and design. From Terry Kitchens: "We always come away from this show charged up and ready to go back to see how we can apply some of what we learn, both from the presentations and from speaking to others in the rental business. Bill, Vergie and I came back this year with new ideas and new equipment, including some items we have not offered for rent before.
Last year we did add some new lines of equipment that have been big hits with our customers: trailer-type light towers that run very quietly on diesel; each one can light an 80,000 square feet area - this year we added a third to our fleet. The limb and brush chippers we received last year have been heavily used due to the 'burn ban' that has been in effect; we will soon have another 35hp chipper on hand. The 500-gallon water trailer with a small engine built in, so the customer can have pressurized water for washing, sprinkling, etc. away from power or water hose connections, was out so much last year that we've ordered and receive a second one. Contractor customers asked for high-reach equipment; we added a new item, a 42' mobile platform lift (middle photo above) with 2-person capacity. Another new item is a towable 6" water pump, diesel-powered, that can pump an astounding 87,000 gallons of water per hour! If it ever rains around Tomball again we expect this machine to be busy. As always we used the show to restock and replenish the lines of equipment that our
customers have come to expect." Tomball Rental Expands Base of OperationsOver One Acre added January 15, 1999 -- The company recently doubled the size of its physical location at 27219 Tomball Parkway by acquiring the acreage just north of its present location. The immediate use of this property is to contain a swelling fleet of rental equipment of all types, from bulldozers and backhoes to more number and style of trailers for rent, including pop-up campers, 5th wheel trailers, water transport, cargo and horse trailers, as well as more ready-mix concrete, tandem axle and small equipment trailers. Eventual plans call for a new showroom for the company's party equipment rental division, which currently shares space in the existing 2-story structure. Also, company officials are confident that a new traffic pattern and exit drive around the current building will ease congestion that occurs during peak equipment pickup and return hours on Saturdays and Monday mornings.
